In Better Times
In better times,
she'd set the
Calendar ahead the day before the
End of the current month, remembering
With joy each little memory that she
Was tucking away behind the promising
Days to come -
The one when
she finds July,
yellowed and two months old,
Behind the desk in the dusty corner
Where the wainscotting and parqueted
Flooring meet;
The one when
she fails to
Reincarnate her inventory of
Dates, appointments and parties
Scattered in shards on the kitchen
Table for the amusement of these
Quieter times.
