the idea

I take poems to the start of the path.
From thereon, they guide me
Not the other way around
They tease me with word play

But eventually we get around to
important matters, and we step more
carefully, alert to stride and breath
and destination. The hardest part
          is starting - getting poems to where the path
          (sometimes overgrown and difficult to locate)
          enters the wood and slopes slightly downhill;

The river on the left helps,
as does the close canopy
providing a frame and focus ahead.
