Chop Chop! Part I
Some words can survive without their heads and tails. Clip the 'MIDEAST' of its first and last letters and 'IDEAS' remains. Fill in the blanks in each sentence by putting a head and tail on another word in the sentence.

eg. An irate publisher urged his government to enact stricter laws to punish software ___________. (pirates, from irate)

1. The couple had hoped to enjoy lamb FLAMBE for their main course. However, the waiter had obviously been sipping from the brandy and he managed to set himself ablaze.

2. The only upside of the company's May lay-off is the opportunity it
affords fans to stay up late to watch the hockey PLAY-OFFS.

3. The only way I could stomach liver as a child was to cut it into
SLIVERS and drown it in ketchup.

4. I've been wandering the streets of Camelot for hours. It's well nigh
time I bumped into a KNIGHT.

5. The leg of Granny's rocker jarred the cabinet, and down fell all of
Granny's CROCKERY.

6. "You've just broken par for the first time. I'd expect to see at least
a(n) SPARK of enthusiasm."

7. An utter lack of EQUITY in the advancement practices of the company was the reason that she quit.

Chop Chop! Part III

The two word answers clued below comprise a longer word and a word formed by beheading and curtailing that word. For instance, "What follows the sixth event?" is SEVENTH EVENT. The word SEVENTH when beheaded and curtailed yields EVENT.
